Cowboys Tony Romo is done for the season
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo’s season is in jeopardy after he re-injured his left collarbone in Thursday’s 33-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
According to sources, the scan showed a small crack in the healed portion of the distal fracture that Romo suffered in the September 20 win against the Philadelphia Eagles that caused him to miss seven games.
Tony Romo threw three interceptions for the Cowboys – two of which were returned for touchdowns – and re-injured his left collarbone, leaving the game for the final quarter.
Four days after Romo’s return in a win at Miami, the loss in their annual Thanksgiving Day game likely ended any shot of the Cowboys (3-8) recovering to defend their NFC East title. Even more impressive were the Panthers’ two interceptions returned for touchdowns in the first half by safety Kurt Coleman and middle linebacker Luke Kuechly.
Romo finished 11 of 21 for 106 yards with a 27.2 passer rating. PFT has been told, however, that there’s still a slim chance Romo will return.
The league’s top tackler since joining the NFL in 2012, Kuechly dropped into coverage and easily stepped in front of a pass intended for Terrance Williams before churning up the left sideline and pushing Romo away as he crossed the goal line.
“In my eyes, he will always be Captain America because he makes every play”, Newton said.
“I look at what (the Panthers) do, how they play their defense, what they’ve got going with their offense, the kind of year Cam Newton is having – they are a real example of how to put a team together that is exemplary”, he said. “That’s what people really don’t see about this whole team”. Romo actually won his first of those, against Buffalo in 2007.
NOTES: Dallas defensive end Greg Hardy had a quiet game against his former team, finishing without any tackles and missing most of the second half with an injury Garrett wouldn’t specify. Matt Cassel came on for Romo in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s game and is expected to assume the starting job for the remainder of the season. Cotchery had his best game of the season with five catches for 73 yards.
