Cowboys’ Tony Romo: Two touchdowns in win over Dolphins
Sunday’s 24-14 loss to Dallas, which ended the Cowboys’ seven-game losing streak, shows that South Florida’s National Football League franchise has too many issues to be a playoff contender.
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns in Dallas’ 24-14 win at Miami. Again, it’s a safe assumption this unit would be top-10 in both categories had Romo been there to keep it off the field a reasonable amount of the time.
Like Monty Python’s Black Knight, the Cowboys have stood in front of their opponents for the last seven games with their arms lopped off, insisting “I’m invincible!”
Otherwise, all the offensive dysfunction that plagued the disastrous Brandon Weeden-Matt Cassel winless stretch magically went away.
From there, Romo started to get it together. Shockingly enough, the Cowboys pulled off the win largely due to their ability to deal with miscues.
The climax of the game came when Rashad Greene returned a 63 yard punt to set the stage for Blake Bortles 5 yard touchdown pass to Julius Thomas with just 3:30 remaining on the clock. For the last three quarters, the Cowboys dominated. His second quarter interception for a pick six was the first score of the game on either side and gave the early momentum to the Cowboys.
The Cowboys had the ball for 38:50.
This is the time of year Romo tends to get hot, mid-November right around the annual Thanksgiving game.
DEZ DANCE: Dallas receivers Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams were flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for doing the dab, a dance becoming trendy in the NFL. The Giants were on a bye Sunday, so there record holds at 5-5, and both the Eagles and Redskins we beaten badly Sunday dropping both their records to 4-6, so the Cowboys are only two games out of first.
It started with a Saturday night speech where Romo lifted up his teammates by sharing his feelings about how inspired he was with the Cowboys’ effort during his absence despite their skid. Lamar Miller averaged 6.3 yards per attempt but carried only seven times. The team overall has 12 yards receiving, two catches, no touchdowns, news analysts note. But they need to beat the Panthers, who improved to 10-0 by beating Washington 44-16. But, McClain made the play by reading the eyes of Ryan Tannehill perfectly and scoring the opening touchdown.
“They said the game is going to come down to the whole team being on the same page, and if you play together good things will happen”. But this much is clear: They can’t continue to play the way they did against the Cowboys to have any realistic shot of still making something of this season.
However, with their starting quarterback in tow, Dallas was able to snap the losing streak and secure victory over the Dolphins.
