Cowboys Week 9 Picks & Predictions
If there’s any way to revitalize hope in Philadelphia, it’s by beating the Cowboys in overtime. He and the Cowboys dominated the Philadelphia offense, which finished the game with only 10 points. The Eagles desperately need Matthews to assert himself a No. 1 receiver, and Sunday night he did that. With Bradford’s struggles, the Eagles can’t afford to lose the ability to run the ball if they want to have a shot at winning this game. They found that elusive rhythm on offense that has been so inconsistent this year, traveling 80 yards over 13 plays, converting a fourth down for a DeMarco Murray 1-yard touchdown. However, the Eagles’ lone touchdown came deep in the fourth quarter. Bailey’s kick bounced off the left upright … but went through, knotting the game at 27 at the end of regulation. Such as the Cowboys’ defense failing to get a stop on the opening drive of overtime for the second time this season. With Romo, the Cowboys won their first two games of the season.
However, the lead barely had time to breathe. The Eagles are also in a rut this season, being one of the more inconsistent teams in the league.
The Eagles took a 14-7 lead midway through the third quarter with a quick 95-yard drive. For the third straight game, the Eagles allowed the opponent to march down the field on its opening drive. Nine of their plays were rushes, including a 21-yarder by Mathews.
They can look to a Terrance Williams touchdown that was called back in the second quarter due to a pass interference penalty. Something they failed to do last week, when all 12 of their points came on four successful field goal attempts.
Maybe DeMarco Murray doesn’t make a 20-yard run on second-and-14. Coming off the edge, LB Connor Barwin has a sack in his past two against Dallas, while DE Vinny Curry has a sack in three of the past five head-to-head. We saw Jordan Matthews overcome every obstacle so far to pull in arguably his most important catch as an Eagle.
Despite the Eagles giving up big yardage through the air, they may not have much to worry about facing Dallas back up Matt Cassell.
Steven James Anderson, better known as the wrestler “Stone Cold Steve Austin”, is throwing his hat in the ring to be the placeholder at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys until Tony Romo returns from injury.
There was little question that Cassel had a very good half of football, but Bradford was matching him pretty well.
Murray made the decision pay off. After an initial hesitation as the Cowboys’ defensive line surged, Murray followed center Jason Kelce inside and burst into the end zone for the tying score. Darren McFadden rushed for 64 yards in 20 attempts.
Tough look for Malcolm Jenkins on Cole Beasley‘s touchdown catch. The Eagles use safeties to cover the slot receivers this season, but that’s tougher matchup against smaller, shiftier types such as Beasley.
