Cowboys WR Dez Bryant out 10-12 weeks after bone graft

Murray’s replacement in Dallas fared much better in a 27-26 win over the New York Giants on Sunday night. Bryant took to Twitter so share an update on his surgery.

It’s clear that the Cowboys are more broken up about Bryant’s injury than they are about Murray leaving. This may not be the case anymore.

If the Cowboys truly expect a 10-12 week absence, they need to decide whether to carry Bryant on the active roster, or whether to place him on injured reserve with the designation to return, which would knock him out for a minimum of eight weeks.

It’s impossible to determine when Bryant will actually be back.

“It was a little tough, but I felt that there are some good things we did in the passing game that got us on the board”, Murray said.

Roddy White, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter, is even less optimistic…

What hurts the Cowboys is that their schedule is very top heavy. That could mean a return as early as Week 7 in a rematch against the New York Giants in the Meadowlands following their bye week.

I like the Eagles to win this game and cover the chalk.

Sunday afternoon will be the first time in four years the Cowboys take the field for a regular-season game without Bryant. The Saints aren’t a great team, but the Cowboys week four matchup against them is in the SuperDome. Teams are always so fearful of the big play down the field especially with a guy like Dez that you’re able to work the underneath stuff.

The Cowboys have a talented team, one that should realistically win the NFC East and be competitive in the playoffs.

Devin Street is another option for the Cowboys, who have been bitten hard by the injury bug at WR in the past. What will help make up for the loss of Bryant is the Cowboys deep receiving corps. “One of the best quarterbacks in the league running the show”, Eagles coach Chip Kelly said.

Regardless of what jerseys the Eagles wear, the biggest story-line heading into the game will be DeMarco Murray’s first game against his former team in the Dallas Cowboys. Dunbar will be critical for Romo moving forward without Bryant. “Last week he was pretty clean and everybody is praising him, and good Romo comes out where he’s clutch, he’s making plays”.
