Crabs on the Metro? Video posted of crabs crawling along Gateshead platform
Passengers on a city centre Metro system were stunned when several dozen crabs were spotted crawling out of a train.
An unknown camera-person filmed the events in the northern subway, showing around 20 of the sea creatures scuttling around the platform and onto the train.
Metro bosses say a passenger was carrying them in a plastic bag that split open.
It was then left up to the station’s cleaners to remove the creatures after the owner left without gathering up his horde of clawed beasts.
Confused passengers looked on in amusement as some of the crabs appeared to try and get back on the train after being removed.
A Metro spokesman has said the crabs have now been taken to Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth. “They have been taken to the Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth”.
The footage, which was taken at Gateshead Metro Station at about 9pm last night, appears to show Metro staff kicking the crustaceans off the train. There was some suggestion that a fisherman’s bag split, with the crabs spilling out onto the station platform.
One Twitter user said: “Genuinely baffled as to why and how there was a Metro full of actual real life crabs in Gateshead today????”
