Crash kills Nebraska punter, former Michigan State punter
Thom Moerman said speed was likely a factor in the single-vehicle crash that happened around 11:45 p.m. Saturday.
The news comes after the Nebraska Athletic Department released a statement on the death of Punter Sam Foltz.
LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye was hospitalized after being involved in a auto crash in Wisconsin overnight that took two players’ lives, a Wisconsin sheriff’s department confirmed in a new release Sunday.
The driver, Michael R. Sadler, 24, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, was also killed in the crash.
Foltz was the Big Ten Punter of the Year last season and led the conference with 44.2 yards per punt. “The young men in our football program are hurting but I know that their strength of character and resolve will bring us together and we will honor Sam every day moving forward”.
Investigators said the vehicle was going west on Beaver Lake Road, lost control on wet pavement, left the road and hit a tree. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was named the Eddelman-Fields Big Ten Punter of the Year and a first-team All-Big Ten selection. LSU later confirmed that Delahoussaye was injured in the crash and said he only received “minor injuries”. He walked-on at Nebraska as a wide receiver, but quickly earned a scholarship because of his leg. Foltz also served as the team’s holder.
Sadler is known as one of the best punters in MSU history. Of Sadler, Michigan coach Mark Dantonio tweeted, “He gave us all so much in so little time”.
“Our prayers of love and support go out to Sam’s family during this hard time and we will do all that we can to help comfort them in this time of sadness”. While his loss is devastating, his impact will be felt forever.
