Crawford’s fly falls short, Giants lose 1-0 to Dodgers
Before last night’s game against the San Francisco Giants, the Dodgers placed starting pitchers Scott Kazmir and Brett Anderson on the 15-day disabled list, bringing the total number of Dodgers to have hit the DL this season to 27.
Hill was acquired alongside his teammate Josh Reddick at the Major League Baseball trade deadline for three pitching prospects and is undefeated in his last nine starts overall, posting a record of 7-0 with a 1.80 ERA. The Dodgers have a 12-0 record when they don’t allow any runs. In six games (three starts) since the All-Star break, Stripling is 1-1 with a 3.16 ERA.
Detroit’s Cameron Maybin drove in three runs, including a go-ahead two-run single in the sixth inning, as the Tigers beat Minnesota 8-3. He joined ESPN Chicago in July 2010 and covered the Chicago White Sox for ESPNChicago.com and ESPN Radio 1000 through the 2015 season. Craig Kimbrel got the final three outs for his 23rd save. He is 3-1 in six career starts against San Francisco.
Gausman permitted only one runner past second base. Arrieta has two no-hitters in the past year.
Adam Jones went 4 for 5 and Chris Davis hit his 30th home run of the season for Baltimore, which stayed within two games of the AL East lead.
Segedin posted a photo on Instagram of him and his wife in the hospital Monday while he was holding the ball from his first home run.
Hill made ample and effective use of his curve ball against the Giants hitters, striking out three and issuing no walks. The San Francisco Giants have an ERA of 3.81 and have lost seven of their last eight games when allowing more than three runs. His five walks were a season-worst. Kelvin Herrera pitched a ideal ninth for his eighth save. Stripling struck out four and walked four in 7 1/3 innings. He allowed one run in six innings.
MILWAUKEE – Hernan Perez hit a two-run triple in the seventh inning, lifting Milwaukee over Colorado.
Perez hit a 0-2 pitch from Carlos Estevez into the right-field corner. Being able to line up a playoff series with Kershaw, once healthy, in addition to Hill and Kenta Maeda might give Los Angeles one of the best top-three of any playoff rotation. Not only have they ceded 9 games in the NL West to drop into second place, but they are just a half-game ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals and 1 games ahead of the Miami Marlins in a blurred NL wild card picture. Corey Knebel pitched the ninth for his first career save in his 75th game.
Prior to the injury, the 36-year-old Hill compiled a 2.25 ERA with a 90/28 K/BB ratio in 76 innings spanning 14 starts. It was the second important decision he made in the game – the first was taking Hill out after six shutout innings – and both worked. “You win 1-0, you lose 1-0, there’s nothing you can do”. The Dodgers won 1-0. He allowed three runs on five hits in five innings in a 9-5 loss to the Mets.
Jeurys Familia earned his 42nd save, one shy of the Mets’ season record set by Familia previous year and Armando Benitez in 2001.
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Kenley Jansen throws during the ninth inning of a baseball game against the San Francisco Giants, Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, in Los Angeles. He’s split time between first base, third base, left field and right field, batting.286 with two homers and 12 RBI in 35 at-bats. That’s the most by an Oakland player since Jack Cust hit 33 in 2008.
The Dodgers’ innings issue from the rotation is best illustrated by a few facts: The club’s most recent pitcher to offer seven innings was rookie Ross Stripling on August 12.
Rookie Gary Sanchez kept up his torrid stretch with his seventh home run in the past nine games, and Masahiro Tanaka won his fourth straight start in New York’s victory over Seattle.
Up next: Moore makes his biggest start for the Giants (obviously).
Justin Turner provided the night’s only offense, ruining Giants starter Johnny Cueto’s own gem with a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Kris Bryant hit his 33rd homer of the season, tied for the NL lead, and Addison Russell also homered for the Cubs.
