Creed director Ryan Coogler in talks for Black Panther
Historically, Black Panther has been considered by most to be the richest comic book character in either DC Comics or Marvel, a scientific genius, an expert combatant, and a straight up bad-ass.
The outlet notes that negotiations are still underway for the project, so it’s possible that talks could fall through as Coogler isn’t the first director to be targeted for the film either.
While promoting “Creed” last month, Coogler said he believed that Marvel needed to hire a black director who could better connect with the character’s cultural background. The cover has added controversy to a film that has already seen a few this year already, including Ava DuVernay turning down the directing gig. “Black Panther” would give Coogler his first shot to director a potential blockbuster film.
Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. “And I think that brings him into conflict weirdly with both characters at different times in the film”. “It’d be three years of not doing other things that are important to me”.
If Coogler signs on to direct the Black Panther movie, he will be working with a script written by “American Crime Story” scripter, Robert Cole. It’s not fair to the comics fans to whom Black Panther means a great deal in terms of progress and representation.
