Crews Search For Missing Boater In The Chesapeake Bay
A boater rescued one adult and four children from the water about a mile north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Sunday afternoon, but a man is missing, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Their conditions were unknown, the Coast Guard said.
There have been 16 boating fatalities in Maryland this year. They were taken back to Sandy State Park where the group initially set out from. The ship sunk stern first, adding that there was “no time to put on life jackets”, according to officials.
The Anne Arundel County Fire Department is assisting Natural Resources Police and the Coast Guard in the search for the missing 42-year-old passenger.
A man from Beltsville, his two sons and his daughter were also rescued. She says the boaters reported that they saw the missing man go under the water and did not see him resurface.
The missing man was wearing a red shirt, officials said.
A good samaritan helped four children and one adult to safety. All five were being evaluated by medical personnel on shore at Sandy Point.
