Cricket champ escapes gun attack in Karachi
Reportedly, the investigations in the street fury occurrence, including Wasim Akram, appears to have hit a barrier as the officer in-control said that the previous Pakistan captain gave a wrong number of the auto.
A gunman opened fire on Pakistan’s legendary former cricket captain Wasim Akram in an apparent incident of road rage in the southern city of Karachi on Wednesday, police said.
Karachi-East Zone DIG Munir Ahmed Shaikh told reporters yesterday that police had recovered the vehicle and also identified the driver as Abid who has been arrested. Police is striving to bring their employer to book, as well. The attack took place on Shah Faisal Road when Akram was in a auto, travelling from his home to the National Stadium where he is supervising a 13-day training camp for fast bowlers.
While Akram was arguing with the driver, an unidentified man from the auto stepped out and opened fire at former Pakistan all-rounder’s vehicle.
“His appearance resembled that of an official”, Akram told local media.
“What I can confirm to you is that it was not a major accident and it only came to light because it involved Wasim Akram“, he continued.
“After the incident it was felt that because he is such a high profile figure he should be given security while coming and going from the stadium and conducting the camp”, a PCB official said. The registration number of the seized four-wheeler is AEJ-061.
“Altaf has confirmed their auto slightly hit Wasim’s vehicle but although the cricketer signaled them to stop, Aamir Butt forced him to drive on after which Wasim chased them and blocked their way”, he said.
