Cristiano Ronaldo beats Lionel Messi to win Federation Internationale de Football Association best player award
Ronaldo’s form has been rewarded with his fourth Ballon d’Or and the inaugural Federation Internationale de Football Association award for Best Men’s Player, and he insists that both the team awards and individual recognition is a source of great pride for him.
Ronaldo also won the Ballon d’Or, given by France Football magazine, in December, with both honours recognition for success in the Champions League with Real and Euro 2016 with Portugal.
Ronaldo won his fourth FIFA Player of the Year award after helping Portugal and Real Madrid become European champions last year.
The former Madrid, Barcelona and Inter striker told France Football: “I have no doubt about that”.
Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill’s Top 3 was more conventional than the aforementioned O’Neill with Ronaldo, Messi and Griezmann selected in that order. “They wanted to hit me from all sides and the truth is the best was the best and that is me, so I am very happy”.

Italian Claudio Ranieri was named best men’s coach after guiding Leicester City to a sensational English Premier League title.

As well as the FIFA FIFPro World11 being announced, Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri is shortlisted for the managerial award, along with Portugal’s Fernando Santos and Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.

According to a recently-improved voting system, the victor was chosen via a process in which 50 percent of the result was based on the choices of the captains and head coaches of all the world’s national teams.
Toni Kroos and Sergio Ramos were the other Real players named in the team of the year, while Manuel Neuer of Bayern Munich and Juventus’s Dani Alves also appeared on stage to collect their awards.
Carli Lloyd of United States of America was named FIFA Women Footballer of the Year ahead of Melanie Behringer of Germany and Marta of Brazil.
Argentine legend Diego Maradona handed the award to Ranieri.
