Cristiano Ronaldo named UEFA Best Player in Europe

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2016 has been phenomenal. However, Antoine Griezmann, the star striker of Real Madrid’s arch rivals Atletico Madrid feels otherwise and has sated that he is the one who deserves to win the award. The award was decided by voting- with 55 journalists casting their votes. Cristiano beat the two other candidates: Atlético’s Antoine Griezmann and Madrid team mate Gareth Bale to the trophy, which was handed over by UEFA’s interim president and RFEF president Ángel María Villar.

After winning the award, the soccer star was quoted by Daily Mail saying “It’s a great honor”. I try to work hard and play well and in the end things are working out well’.

Bale also impressed over the course of the last season, playing a key role in Real’s Champions League triumph while also inspiring Wales’ run to the semifinals of Euro 2016.

“I think all of the games we [Atletico] won, but especially the Champions League quarterfinal and semifinal”.

“I always wanted to win something with Portugal and now I’ve managed it”.

Cristiano Ronaldo declared himself “very happy and proud” to win the Uefa Best Player in Europe Award on Thursday.

But it was Ronaldo who emerged triumphant in a year where he guided Real Madrid to Champions League glory as well as winning Euro 2016 with Portugal. “But it wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t mention these two wonderful players”, said Ronaldo.
