Cristiano Ronaldo to testify in tax fraud case July 31 – court
Perez, who began his second spell in 2009 and has overseen three Champions League wins in the last four years, has barely had to contend with any rivals for his post since the La Liga club changed internal rules for presidential candidates in 2012. “That’s why I will speak with him when he gets back and see what’s up”, Perez told Spanish radio Onda Cero yesterday [Macau time].
Ronaldo is yet to comment on his future after claims he wishes to leave Santiago Bernabeu emerged last week. Perez insists Ronaldo will not be leaving Real this summer, contrary to reports.
“He is part of Real Madrid’s history”.
“I’m a Man United fan, and my kids love him, so I hope that he’ll be back”.
The Real Madrid president continued: “I don’t know why people say he was born to play for Madrid…”
“The whole thing is very unusual because Cristiano Ronaldo is a great guy, both as a player and a person”.
“Life throws up unexpected situations but one has to take them on and find a solution”.
The future of all-time top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo and fellow forwards Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez has, however, been thrown into doubt, although Perez said Real has not started conducting their business yet.
Perez said: “I will always defend Cristiano as a person and as a footballer”.
Spanish prosecutors have accused Manchester United manager José Mourinho of tax fraud.
Former club Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a swoop for the 32-year-old.
Perez though has issued a warning to United, saying Real are not in the business of offloading players: “We want to keep all our players next season, including James. But now in the case of Cristiano Ronaldo, we want to clarify once and for all that this rumour has no basis and must be referred to in the realm of fables”. He’s a very good person.
“I’m not contemplating that Cristiano will leave”.
“That is why we must apply the principle of presumption of innocence in all areas”.
“I am sure that Cristiano complies with his tax duties, it must be a confusion that will be cleared”. It must be a confusion that will be clarified.
“Ronaldo is a Real player and will continue to be so as far as we are concerned”, Perez told Marca sports daily Tuesday. “He is not like that”.
