Critics’ Choice add ‘Force Awakens’ as best picture nominee
This photo provided by Disney/Lucasfilm shows Daisy Ridley, right, as Rey, and BB-8, in a scene from the film, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, directed by J.J. Abrams.
The reason for the change is because Star Wars: The Force Awakens wasn’t screened for critics until the week of December 14, meaning it wasn’t seen in time for Critics’ Choice Awards voting.
Until now. On Tuesday after polling its members the Broadcast Film Critics Association chose to add the film to its list of best picture nominees, bringing the total to eleven. But after members finally did see the film, there was a special referendum held yesterday and it was made a decision to add the seventh Star Wars film to the party.
The film was not screened for BFCA voters in time for nominations balloting, but after seeing the new tale of a galaxy far, far away, the the board of directors held a special vote to make “Force Awakens” the 11th Best Picture nominee. “While making an amendment to the Critics’ Choice Awards nominations is highly unusual, having an 11th Best Picture nominee is not unprecedented”, the group said today.
Do you think The Force Awakens is one of the best movies of the year?
The 21st Critics’ Choice Awards, which will air January 17 on the A&E networks, will be the first to include both film and TV categories – 28 and 23, respectively – to be handed out over the course of three hours.
