Crowd roars as 8-year-old with cerebral palsy completes triathlon
His parents said they were overwhelmed by the support from the crowd, who had stayed behind to watch Bailey finish one of the country’s most hard triathlon courses.
Cheered on by hundreds of spectators as he approached the end of the race, Bailey Matthews ditched his walker and began heading unassisted toward the finish line. But as time went on he became more ambitious and wanted to complete the Park Run without it.
Don’t underestimate the power of the human spirit!
Bailey Matthews, an eight-year-old boy with cerebral palsy has proved his determination by completing his first ever triathlon, the Castle Howard Triathlon in the North Yorkshire, near where he lives.
Amber Redfearn wrote: “Bailey, you little beauty, my two-year-old daughter has cerebral palsy, you have no idea how much you have just filled my heart with hope and love”.
And while everyday tasks such as getting dressed can be a struggle, Bailey doesn’t let it bother him.
“We have always tried to make sure that if there is something he wants to do, there is no such word as “can’t”.
The young boy who hails from Doncaster, England was without a doubt the star at Castle Howard this past weekend. If we can make that easier for him then that is what we will do.
‘The hard thing is that for us it is normal.
‘It would have been very hard even for able-bodied children.
“This little lad is awesome, such an inspiration to other children and [families] going through the same thing”, Gemma Louise George wrote on Facebook.
Yvonne Turner, from the Castle Triathlon series said that the event had been a huge success. He contacted the race director and he made the arrangements for him to take part.
