No serious injuries were reported, but passengers aboard the Anthem of the Seas posted pictures on social media of tossed furniture and broken vases.
According to CBS News, passengers were ordered to stay in their staterooms until the weather improved. There have been no injuries reported.
Through there was damage to some public areas and guest rooms, Royal Caribbean said it hasn’t affected “the sea-worthiness of the ship”. Chairs were overturned while one photo showed several large planters overturned.
But the captain must have known he was sailing toward trouble; the National Weather Service had forecast hurricane-force winds off the Carolinas.
The ship is now in the middle of a seven-day cruise that left New Jersey on Saturday. It developed very rapidly as a non-tropical storm.
The good news is the weather forecasted for the rest of Anthem of the Seas voyage past Port Canaveral appears to be much calmer.
Passengers Tweeted pics of a Royal Caribbean ship knocked apart last night in hurricane force winds while en route to Florida. There are unverified estimates that winds topped 100 miles per hour. Royal Caribbean said the damage in no way affects the seaworthiness of the ship.
The Coast Guard confirmed the ship hit a “rough patch” of weather but said the cruise ship would arrive in Florida around noon and did not need the Coast Guard’s assistance. The vessel can hold almost 5,000 passengers.
