Cruz campaign won’t change strategy despite birther issue, adviser says
The New York Times is reporting that Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz failed to disclose a loan from Citibank that was used to help finance his successful 2012 Senate campaign.
Newton Schwartz has filed a lawsuit-which appears to be the first questioning whether or not Cruz is really eligible to run for President.
Should the current debate be about the location of Ted Cruz’s birth, or the nationality of his father at the time?
Questions about Rubio’s eligibility began in 2011 when his name was circulated as a possible vice presidential running mate.
Cruz, who is favored by some polls to win the Iowa caucuses in February, was born of an American mother and a Cuban father in Calgary, in the province of Alberta, Canada, in 1970.
While legal scholars can debate whether the circumstances of Ted Cruz’s birth disqualify him from the presidency, the dishonest and cavalier way Trump has addressed this issue should disqualify him from consideration to be the Republican nominee by any serious person.
Cruz’s citizenship was at the center of one of the most heated moments of the sixth GOP debate Thursday night.
The U.S. Supreme Court has never ruled on what is meant by “natural-born”.
This lawsuit comes after Trump’s attack on Cruz’s status.
Tribe taught constitutional law to Senator Ted Cruz, President Barack Obama and Chief Justice John Roberts. “[Ted Cruz] is a ‘natural born citizen.’ Obama too”. The forces the Republican Party has set loose by courting white supremacists, conspiracy theorists, and blood-thirsty nationalists who for a key part of Trump’s base can’t be easily crammed back in the attic. “I’ll tell you what, if this all works out, I’m happy naming you VP so if you’re right, you’ll get the top job at the end of the day”, Cruz said.
“But Donald”, he said to rising applause, “I’m not going to use your mother’s birth against you”. “Can you think of the problems that would occur?” It was so egregiously mindless, and so stereotypically insulting, that it wound up making Donald Trump look good. “But the long and short of it is we just want a decision”.
They returned to the campaign trail on Friday aiming more firepower at one another than Trump or Cruz.
“It’s pretty simple, if Eleanor and Rafael Cruz were eligible to vote according to the Canadian election board, that means they were Canadian citizens”, he insisted.
The Cruz campaign declined to comment on the suit, but said Cruz has no connection Schwartz. In a Reuters/Ipsos poll taken from January 7 to January 14, a quarter of Republicans, along with a quarter of independents and voters in general, said they believed Cruz is unqualified. Obama was the real victor of that exchange as well, since the birther argument against Cruz exposes the sheer silliness of the birther argument against the President. That law said: “And the children of citizens of the United States, that may be born beyond the sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens”.
