Cruz goes after Rubio on foreign policy
If this were a small part of a broader-based attack on Cruz for foreign policy weakness, a la the sort of playbook Rubio would run against Rand Paul if Paul was a top contender, that would be one thing. Kasich said he thinks he is the only candidate who is challenging Trump’s comments and many people – presumably Republicans – are glad he’s doing so.
Trump’s insults, created to inflame right-wing passions, have started to weaken his candidacy. So when Cruz attacked Rubio’s immigration reform bill as “amnesty”, Rubio invoked Cruz’s amendment offering legal status to illegals.
Mitch Sorensen, a 49-year-old physical education teacher in Creston, said the 99-county tour allows voters outside of larger cities to see a candidate’s passion.
Some of his Republican rivals did push back on Trump’s disgraceful embrace of registering American Muslims in some kind of database-he would “absolutely” do that-as well as his statement that he’d “strongly consider” shutting down mosques, and his refusal to rule out forcing Muslims to carry special identification. The retired brain surgeon turned out to be a head case.
A day later, The New York Times excoriated Trump and his party: “His right to spew nonsense is protected by the Constitution, but… history teaches that failing to hold a demagogue to account is a unsafe act”.
They ate corn bread and chili and felt right at home in their heavily Republican suburban enclave on the north side of Atlanta.
Donald Trump’s proposed “Great Wall” along the Mexican border has soaked up much of the attention in the press since the billionaire real estate mogul announced his campaign in mid-June. Instead, he tweeted about his polling numbers and how he “cannot be bought”.
Though he’s poured significant resources into the early contest states – Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina – Cruz has also been establishing beachheads elsewhere, notably Dixie.
He continues to lead polls both nationally and in New Hampshire.
That’s why politicos will be looking for fast-rising stars between now and February. I think there’s nobody more qualified than Jeb Bush. Rubio, among the most hawkish in the GOP field, has gone after Cruz on surveillance in the wake of the Paris attacks. Cruz has come to the state multiple times, and is expected to return again before year’s end.
The Quinnipiac poll is the second this week to show Cruz moving in behind Trump among Iowa Republicans, and the Texas senator appears to be on the rise in the Hawkeye State. The stakes are too high if Trump gets the nomination. “I think that made no sense”, Cruz said in an interview with Bloomberg Politics on Monday.
The final question remains. “So I mean, what’s the difference?”
If he feels slighted, Trump might mount an independent campaign, despite an earlier promise not to bolt the party.
I’ve always maintained Trump was destined to be Ross Perot on steroids. “I will be leading in every poll, and leading by actually very wide margins”.
Voters who met Cruz over the weekend appreciated the effort. “So, yes, anyone who wants contraceptives can access them, but it’s an utter made-up nonsense issue”, Cruz said at a campaign stop in Bettendorf, Iowa.
A picture of Trump as a gracious loser has never been taken. The reporter suffers from a physical disability.
