Cruz not standing for Rubio, Trump calling him a liar
The new attacks came as the race entered an increasingly nasty phase, with numerous negative ads airing on local television following an unusually caustic debate this past weekend.
“The [Republican National Committee] should intervene and if they don’t they are in default of their pledge to me”, Trump wrote, opening the door to a third-party bid. “But the pledge is not being honored by them….”
Cruz responded to Trump during a question-and-answer session following an appearance at a gallery in Camden, characterising Trump as nervous about his standing in the state.
Mr. Trump threatened to sue Mr. Cruz, challenging his eligibility to serve in the White House unless he stops airing what Mr. Trump calls “false ads” and retracts what the billionaire real estate mogul called a series of lies.
The feud between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz may be headed to court.
“Sen. Cruz will say or do anything to win an election including employing underhanded tactics and making charges against all his opponents that he knows are outright lies”.
Donald Trump looked to step on a Jeb and George W. Bush rally Monday, and went after Ted Cruz and the Republican Party while he was at it. Ted Cruz, calling him “unstable”, and the “biggest liar I’ve ever come across”. “His statements are totally untrue and completely outrageous”, Trump’s press release continued.
He added, of Jeb Bush, “I said, ‘Why don’t you use the last name?…It’s better than exclamation points”.
At the press conference, a riled Trump expressed dismay that Cruz would go after a family member.
“On this campaign, he is saying things that are not true, and he’s saying it repeatedly, and he knows they’re not true”, Rubio said. Have you noticed how rattled Donald gets when his numbers start going down? One guy’s got like very low in the polls, the other one is very low in the polls. “But… the whole room was made up of special interests and donors, which is a disgrace from the RNC”, Trump said at an event in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. “They had all the tickets”, he said. In the wake of Scalia’s death Saturday, Cruz has asked voters to consider which candidate they most trust to appoint conservative jurists to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The former president’s return to presidential politics has been met with blistering attacks from Trump about the unpopular Iraq war and the economic recession that began at the end of his administration. Trump then said that Cruz called Carson only after the fact to apologize and that Carson didn’t, in his mind, accept the apology. “So I’ll have to sit down and think about what it means to have somebody running as the nominee of the Republican Party that accused the past president of willfully lying about the facts and circumstances of Iraq, and being responsible for 9/11”. “Jeb raised $140 million and he’s wasted all of it”, Trump said. As Trump’s voice is heard, his expletives are bleeped out and an announcer says: “Is this the type of man we want leading our country?” “I’ve never seen anything like that”. Though Bush left office unpopular, most in the crowd at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center gave him a warm reception.
Though South Carolina has a significant number of evangelicals, their vote will not necessarily decide the outcome. Trump countered: “So am I”.
