Cruz promises to defend gun rights in NH campaign swing
Polls for Iowa, which will hold the electoral season’s first vote on February 1, are showing the pair in a close race: Trump with 28 percent of the vote, and Cruz with 26 percent.
A new poll shows Trump with a commanding lead in New Hampshire, with John Kasich, Marco Rubio and Cruz in a virtual tie for second.
“Right now, Donald is losing to Hillary by a pretty significant margin in the national polls, and I’m beating Hillary. That means, you know a lot of people think you have to be born here”, Trump said at rally in New Hampshire before a lethargic and relatively small midday crowd. The shift in strategy came in the wake of Trump’s continued birther attacks on Cruz’s eligibility for the presidency and his insinuations that the Texan is influenced by wealthy oil lobbyists. “The legal question is quite straightforward, which is that the children of American citizens born overseas are natural-born citizens, are citizens by birth”.
Politics is no stranger to varying interpretations of the Constitution, but the question of Ted Cruz’s eligibility for president begs the question: Is this something Cruz will have to reconcile, or could this blow over the way questions of citizenship have for politicians?
“You know these polls go up, they go down”, Clinton said Sunday on “Face the Nation”. “I think it’s a dead end, blind alley for them, but let them go”. For the past week, Cruz has tried to brush off Trump’s broadsides as political silliness, but on Tuesday he suggested Trump’s comments reflected his cozy relationship with prominent Democrats.
“I don’t know”, he said. According to Talking Points Memo, Taylor “also serves as a spokesman for the Council of Conservative Citizens, which was cited in the manifesto written by Charleston shooter Dylann Roof as the group that opened his eyes to what he saw as the scourge of black-on-white crime in America”. She’s never been a citizen of any other place. Sen. The two men still insist they like each other, their campaign-long bromance not extinguished. He has famously clashed in the past with several senators who now are holding back.
Columnist Cass R. Sunstein argues in Bloomberg View that the constitutional clause that establishes what is meant by “natural” born citizen is more encompassing than geographic borders can define and extends to his mother’s American heritage. Cruz has gone out of his way to alienate many of his Senate colleagues, and McCain has called him and his allies “wacko birds”.
“The Donald seems to be a little bit rattled”, Cruz said on “The Howie Carr Show” on Boston’s WRKO.
Watch the polls for Iowa and New Hampshire. “We’ll have a nominee, hopefully, by sometime in the spring”. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, meets with attendees Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, during a campaign stop at Granite State Indoor Range in Hudson, N.H.
