Cruz, Trump feud escalates as candidates lash into each other
At the SC debate Thursday, Cruz and Trump engaged in a heated back and forth, in which Cruz said that Trump “represented NY values”.
Cruz has placed first in a number of recent surveys of likely Iowa caucus-goers, who cast their votes on February 1.
The Hill reports that Cruz has raised millions from NY residents since his presidential campaign began.
Lecturer and activist Cornel West added, “I will admit that Brother Trump, he did tell the truth in terms of there are handsome people in New York City – so anybody can stumble onto the truth, you know what I mean?” Many, if not most, legal experts believe that is enough to qualify as a “natural-born” USA citizen under the Constitution, but Trump has spread doubts about Cruz’s eligibility daily for almost two weeks. “I’m just saying.” Trump then defended NY by praising the way they dealt with the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attack. Yes, Trump’s frustration is well-placed, but he is also “springing out of bed to tweet in a frantic response to the latest polls”, as he told reporters with a smile Saturday in Fort Mill.
Conservative radio talkshow host and bestselling author Mark Levin has a message to GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump – “cut the crap”.
The first-term senator’s backers say his message can consolidate enough conservative support to do well in New Hampshire, which tends to favor more moderate Republicans.
“We are actually occupied with work here”, said Ed McMullen, Trump’s co-chairman in the state, “unlike some other campaigns”. Trump asked his Twitter followers on Saturday if Cruz had any unreported loans from Canadian banks. “I recognize what Donald says on the campaign trail today is fairly conservative, but voters are discerning”.
Cruz and his allies are determined to deny Trump the victory that could thwart the momentum he’s hoping for ahead of Super Tuesday, a date Cruz has described as his campaign’s “firewall”. “That window has closed and I think Donald Trump effectively closed it over the last couple of months”. “If they haven’t been willing to stand and lead, you can know to an absolute fact they wouldn’t do so as president either”.
