Cry-Baby actress Kim McGuire dies aged 60
She responded to an ad for an audition and soon was cast by writer-director John Waters to play the grotesquely disfigured Hatchet Face, a member of the gang led by “Cry-Baby” Walker (Depp), in the 1990 comedy musical that was set in 1954 Baltimore.
Let’s take some time to pause and remember the great, wonderful, unusual actress Kim McGuire, who passed away at 60 from cardiac arrest this week.
Kim McGuire, who is best known for playing Mona “Hatchet-Face” Malnorowski in the hit Johnny Depp movie Cry-Baby has died at the age of 60. She later went on to become an attorney.
Her husband Gene Piotrowsky told TMZ McGuire was admitted to a Florida hospital for pneumonia on Tuesday.
The Louisiana-born McGuire also appeared on TV shows such as Dream On, On the Air and New York Undercover after her strong debut in front of the cameras in Cry-Baby. Since the hurricane, Kim became an accomplished author with her dear husband Gene by her side and publishing books of his own. ‘My best friend, and the love of my life past away this afternoon. “She flourished in theater and passed the BAR to become an attorney in multiple states.I am at a loss for words as to what Gene is now feeling.Everyone who came in contact with Kim couldn’t help but smile”. She acted in a few more productions before she retired to pursue a career as a lawyer.
A friend of the family has set up a GoFundMe account on behalf of Piotrowsky. Kim and Gene were living in New Orleans at the time and unfortunately lost everything in the hurricane. “RIP Kim”, wrote on Twitter. She and Piotrowsky were living in NY on 9/11, and when the attack left them both unemployed, they chose to move to Biloxi, Mississippi, where McGuire’s parents had a vacation home. They lost all things dear to them and had to rebuild their life together from square one.
