‘Cry-Baby’ star Kim ‘Hatchet-Face’ McGuire dies at 60
She reportedly had an adverse reaction to treatment and suffered two cardiac arrests.
Kim McGuire, an actress who gained fame appearing as Mona “Hatchet-Face” Malnorowski alongside Johnny Depp in the 1990 John Waters cult classic Cry-Baby, died Wednesday at 60 in a Florida hospital after a battle with pneumonia.
Her facial features were greatly exaggerated with prosthetics for the cult movie. She went on to play small roles in Serial Mom and on the show Dream On.
McGuire’s husband, Eugene Piotrowsky, told TMZ the actress died yesterday in a Florida hospital after suffering two heart attacks following a hard battle with pneumonia. Tragedy struck the couple once again when Hurricane Katrina completely destroyed their home; in the years following Katrina, they moved around the South-McGuire ended up becoming a licensed attorney in Alabama as well-until finally settling in Florida. “Everyone who came in contact with Kim couldn’t help but smile”. Gene says docs discovered Kim had a bad case of pneumonia and put her in the ICU.

Her film career didn’t have much longevity, though, and aside from a role opposite Malcom McDowell in the revenge thriller Disturbed, her only other significant role was as a TV executive on Mark Frost and David Lynch’s short-lived sitcom On The Air. Friends of Piotrowsky’s set up a GoFundMe page to help her defray expenses. Kim and Gene were living in New Orleans at the time and unfortunately lost everything in the hurricane. They lost all things dear to them and had to rebuild their life together from square one.
McGuire and husband Piotrowsky relocated to Naples, Fla. following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 which leveled their Biloxi home.
