Crystal Palace v Watford, FA Cup 2016
It’s not the time to talk about me.
‘But I’m not sure our fans would, particularly for Palace and Watford it’s an easy journey.
“When you know the story about Palace and Watford, reaching the play-off final three years ago, you know it’s special for the fans”.
Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores insists that he is happy at Watford and due to clubs good position in the league, his job shouldn’t be under any scrutiny.
Watford have already played Palace twice this season and Flores, who has dismissed claims he could be replaced at the end of the season, is wary of the threat Alan Pardew’s side pose.
“It was a good experience and I enjoyed it”.
Palace looked destined for a heroic defeat, only for Andy Gray to take the match to extra-time before Pardew popped up in the second added period to snatch a famous 4-3 victory for the Eagles.
“Pardew famously played in both the final and indeed replay against Manchester United back in 1990 and I expect his players to be primed for a bold show at the home of football on Sunday”.
And for those who were at Upton Park last week to see Man Utd beat the odds and beat West Ham in a quarter final replay were left under no illusion of what it means to the supporters.
“We’ve got four games to go and we know if we can get the wins we believe we can get, we can finish in the top 10 of the Premier League and get to an FA Cup final”.
“It was important to win, however we did it, to stop the rot”, he said.
Watford have the flawless strike force to test this element of Palace’s game with the aerial ability of Odion Ighalo and strength of Troy Deeney. I’d prefer just the final to be at Wembley if I’m honest.
Everton will face Manchester United on Saturday evening, while Crystal Palace will take on Watford on Sunday.
He said: “Some people can go through their career without winning anything, and we’ve got a great chance ahead of us”.
How ironic that the club which infamously withdrew from The FA Cup in 2000 because of other commitments are now so reliant on it to save them from another wasted season.
“You don’t get many players who play for the club they supported and I feel proud to wear the Crystal Palace shirt and have that badge on my chest as well”.
