CU men, women finish second in NCAA cross country
The Louisville Cardinals Men’s Cross Country team finished 7th at the NCAA Championships, being held at Tom Sawyer park in Louisville.
The national championship meet on Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky, will provide the movie’s climax – the fate of the promising UCLA men’s team will be revealed.
As a team, the Penn State women scored 396 points, as all five runners scored inside the top 160. Williams finished in a 1-2-3 sweep, led by top relay members Anna Epstein, Megan Pierce, Emma Waddell, and Delaney Smith. Juniors Will Reyes finished 10th and Stephen Martinez 17th, while sophomore Kyle Medina finished 34th. Burcham has been the front runner for the men in their last three races, including runner-up finishes at the conference and regional meets.
The Eagles’ scoring was rounded out by senior Katie Mahoney and junior Paula Gil-Echevarria, finishing 105th and 114th, respectively, leading to a 12th place team finish for the women. “Proud of this team and what we were able to accomplish this season”.
Florida State’s men have been in this position before at the NCAA Championships – largely over-looked – only to significantly succeed those outside expectations.
“Today, we did not accomplish what we set out to accomplish”, head coach Brad Herbster said.
Catherine Young, a fourth-year All-American, has one last year to accomplish her goals as a Chicago Maroon.
“A lot of times, you’ll start thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, they’re so good, oh man, I don’t know if I can handle it, ‘” Braden said. Chicago’s teams have been selected to run in the championships twice in the past three years.
“It’s exciting. I think it gives me a few confidence going into this weekend that I can compete with that top group of NCAA girls”, Teschuk said Wednesday.
Herbster, however, said that being young should not be an excuse for the team’s performance.
“We told them specifically do not get on your toes, don’t sprint”, Franklin said on New Mexico’s official website at www.golobos.com. “She raced with a lot of poise out there in her first national championships and came away with a coveted All-American honor”.
The Sooners are coming off a close third-place finish at the regional meet and will need the whole team to perform at their best against a competitive national field.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Stevens Institute won the Doug Parker Tournament with 162 points and the Ephs were second with 139 points.
