Cuba hits walk-off homer to capture bronze
A botched pick-off attempt and a second throwing error in the bottom of the extra frame led to two runs as Canada’s men’s baseball team edged the USA 7-6 on Sunday to defend its Pan American baseball title.
Harper finished with a game-high 16 points and four steals; Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (Maryland/Aliquippa, Pa.) had 15 point and four steals; Moriah Jefferson (Connecticut/Glenn Heights, Texas) had 12 points, five assists and six rebounds; and Breanna Stewart (Connecticut/North Syracuse, N.Y.) contributed 10 points and five rebounds.
Toronto is not the only location where UConn products are going after a gold medal. Team US opens against Venezuela at 2 p.m. Monday in the historic first-ever women’s baseball game. The U.S. will face Canada or Brazil in the finals. Coverage begins at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Cuba, which led by as many as 14 points earlier in the game, took a late one-point lead after Jefferson lost the ball near midcourt resulting in Ineidis Casanova’s layup.
Clark-Heard, the 2015 Conference USA Coach of the Year and a 2015 Pat Summitt Trophy award finalist, led her alma mater to a 30-5 mark in 2014-15, setting a new Conference US record for wins in a season and posting the second 30-win season in WKU history.
