Cubs add Coghlan to roster, place La Stella on 15-day DL
146 with a. 487 OPS, after two productive seasons for the Cubs that included a career highs in home runs (16) and walks (58) previous year.
The Cubs have had some injury issues in the outfield, as you know. Considered a “Ben Zobrist type” utility player (as is Alcantara), Coghlan spent time as the A’s designated hitter, at both second and third, in left field and, most recently, filling in for the A’s injured right fielder Josh Reddick.
The A’s were paying all of Coghlan’s contract after the original trade, and I’d have to assume the Cubs will pick up the (approximately) $3.5 million that remains on it. With Hill scheduled to start Saturday before he was scratched, the A’s will move up Kendall Graveman and Sean Manaea up one day each to get the team through the weekend series in Cincinnati. He was traded during the most recent offseason for minor league Pitcher Aaron Brooks. He rejoins the Cubs after spending the 2014 and 2015 campaigns with the club, batting. Muncy is hitting. 263 with seven homers and 20 RBI while Lambo is at.
Brooks is now on the disabled list and has not yet pitched in 2016. 264 with five homers, 21 RBI and 21 steals in 53 games with the Cubs’ Triple-A Iowa team.
Alcantara, 24, played in the majors in 2014-15 but has been in Triple-A all this season. 194 in 304 big-league at-bats in parts of two seasons – including just 2-for-26 (.077) with 11 strikeouts a year ago before being sent back to the minors.
