Cubs Fan Body-Slammed And Choked During Arrest At Pittsburgh Game
The mayor of Pittsburgh has ordered an internal investigation after video of a police officer body-slamming a goat-costume-wearing Chicago Cubs fan at an October 7 post-season baseball game against the Pirates at PNC Park circulated widely online.
After I was notified by text that I was on TV, I tried holding up my sign and was hit with a “spit” chewing tobacco cup by a pirates fan in the left field bleachers.
Someone appears to grab at the device recording the incident, and someone yells “Put the phone down”. The video then cuts to another angle, which shows the officer picking up the fan and then body-slamming him to the ground before sitting on his back and cuffing his hands.
“I got a copy sent to me on Twitter last night and I immediately forwarded it both to the police chief and OMI”, said Mayor Bill Peduto. She said the video indicated that the officer might have engaged in “questionable conduct”.
The fan, identified as Wrigleyville resident Dimitry Mitalas, was reportedly asked to leave the game following a verbal incident between him and nearby Pirates fans.
They mayor would not characterize what he saw, leaving that, and the determination of what happened before the video begins, to investigators. It sounds like the kid just said, ‘Can I talk to you?’ and that’s all it took.
“I left my seat and was exiting through the concourse when a Pittsburgh police officer who didn’t know any details confronted me”, the website reported Dimitri saying.
Pittsburgh police confirmed to Channel 11’s Aaron Martin they are looking into the incident.
