Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber finishes second in the MLB Home Run Derby
Bryce Harper put on a show Monday night to win the 2018 Home Run Derby at his home park, Nationals Stadium.
He then used his bonus 30 seconds to launch the game victor over the centerfield wall. Now you can. Thanks to Bryce Harper, you can pay as little as $1 to go to a Washington Nationals game after his dominant performance in the 2018 MLB Home Run Derby. The hometown favorite Harper – who had only had to hit 13 long-balls in each of the last two rounds to advance – smashed 19 to defeat Schwarber 19-18.
Update: Harper advanced to the semifinals by hitting six homers of more than 440 feet, downing Freeman, 13-12. On his way to hoisting the trophy, Harper belted 45 home runs. While Hoskins did not win, he sure made a name for himself on the national stage with 37 home runs.
Unless you’re a die-hard fan of one of the eight players or the seven teams they represented, you – like me – didn’t care.
A cool moment occurred midway through the first round when Hoskins called his one permitted timeout and fist bumped with Harper, who was expressing awe at the ease of Hoskins’ homers. Harper participated in the 2013 Derby but finished in second place behind Yoenis Céspedes.
The final will be Harper against Schwarber.
“This is a direct violation and all balls hit before the previous ball landed should be out”, the petition, now with 30 signatures, reads.
As magenta steamers rained down from high above the stands behind home plate, Harper walked triumphantly down the first-base line with his bat raised high above his head, according to ESPN. The difference was the pair of homers that Schwarber hit during 30 seconds of extra time. Muncy followed with another victory by one, 17-16, over Javier Baez of the Cubs.
