Cuomo announces new task force to review Common Core

Common Core replaces standards that emphasized memorization with one that emphasizes deduction, problem-solving and other cognitive processes.
Sullivan County Legislature Chairman Scott Samuelson said the state “must have strong learning standards that educate all of our students and help them tap into their full potential – however, those standards must also be sensibly implemented and should not cause undue anxiety to students, parents and educators”.
Some will dismiss the new Common Core-aligned curriculum for a failure, but it doesn’t really matter if they do.

Cuomo distills his message, saying, “the basic truth here is all of this is not about politics and not about Democrats and Republicans, it’s not about the bureaucracy, and it’s not about politicians or union officials”.
