Cuomo Cancels Fundraisers for Mets World Series Tickets
The first and second games, hosted at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., are now selling at $697 and $745, respectively.
The governor, who took a private jet on a Long Island-based charter service with the owners of the Mets to the first game of the World Series Tuesday night in Kansas City, said he was canceling the Friday and Saturday night fundraisers because of an “overwhelming demand for tickets” to the games. A few 29 years ago, in 1986, the “Amazin Mets” played the Boston Red Sox in the World Series and were victorious in game seven; and then in 2000 they lost to the New York Yankees. The tickets have since been returned to the team.
Mr. Azzopardi said Mr. Cuomo’s campaign paid for his ticket at face value and will reimburse the cost of the flight using his campaign funds.
The New York Mets were founded in 1962 to replace the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants who departed the National League. Despite the rising prices, baseball is still America’s pastime.
“The governor should be the fan-in-chief for any New York team up for a championship”, Lerner said.
It is important to remember that often, but not always, prices on the secondary market drop significantly on game day.
His campaign on Monday sent email invitations to donors asking for contributions of $5,500 apiece to attend a pregame reception and seats for either Game Three or Four or the World Series when it returns to New York this weekend. Their Manhattan restaurant will be offering draft beer specials and other specials from the bar, and any person wearing Mets gear will get a 15 percent discount off of their bill if they watch the game there.
