Cuomo, de Blasio: Hypocrites on Cruz’s ‘New York values’
“I was disappointed by your disparaging remarks about NY values somehow being different from Iowa and New Hampshire values”, Smith wrote.
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s campaign isn’t slowing down, at least when it comes to national polling.
Not a lot of New Yorkers have given money to Cruz’s bid for the White House. And yes, I made a paperwork error disclosing it on one piece of paper instead of the other.
After a minute of Cruz trying to explain what the phrase meant, Trump began talking about the city and it residents following the terror attacks on 9/11.
“Extreme conservatives”, said the governor, “have no place in the state of NY, because that’s not who New Yorkers are”.
“I would hope that all New Yorkers allow everybody to speak about what they have to say”.
Cruz referred repeatedly to an interview Trump did with NBC News’ Tim Russert 17 years ago, in which he defines his “New York values” as distinct from “Iowa values”.
So far, there is no response from Trump, Clinton, or Cuomo to Cruz’s latest comments.
Some pledged their allegiance to the various sports teams in NY, like the Yankees and Mets, along with popular food items – like pizza and bagels that New Yorkers love to tout.
The ever-combative Daily News tabloid published a big front-page illustration of the Statue of Liberty giving Cruz the finger, with the headline: “DROP DEAD, TED”.
Mr. Trump, appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”, accused Mr. Cruz of being “inappropriate” in raising questions about whether Mr. Trump’s mother’s citizenship status – she was born in Scotland – disqualifies him from running for president.
“I apologize to all the pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-Second Amendment New Yorkers who were told by Gov. Cuomo that they have no place in New York because that’s not who New Yorkers are”, he said.
Cruz just came off as an actor playing off, off, off, way off Broadway.
Cruz’s comments have led to furious rebuttals from some leading Republicans, including former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who are quick to note that Cruz has brought in millions of dollars for his campaign from New York donors.
The use of “New York values” as a term of abuse rankled some city residents. He then went on a litany of so-called “apologies” that masqueraded as criticisms aimed at the NY officials.
“Everyone understands that the values of New York City are socially liberal”.
