Cuomo’s more popular than de Blasio in NYC
Asked about the increased murder rate and what he would say to some who believe the city is going downhill, Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters: “Look at the facts and stop the hysteria”.
How low can he go? Exactly the same percentage of voters approve of the mayor.
Mr de Blasio said that the police were doing “an extraordinary job” and that the extra deployments had already brought down shootings, adding that he expected the murder rate to soon decline too.
The election calendar keeps getting shorter. So far, C.K. has traveled with Hizzoner to an appearance in Brownsville, and attended a state budget board meeting where de Blasio was giving a speech.
Racial gaps in Mr.de Blasio’s support persist.
The mayor’s approval remains much higher among black and Hispanic voters (64 percent and 48 percent) than among white voters (32 percent), the poll showed. The comedian also spent time at New York’s City Hall, exploring the offices while de Blasio gave a talk on city finances.
Only registered Democrats can vote in Democratic primaries and the city electorate is overwhelmingly Democratic.
De Blasio’s approval on Staten Island is just 19 percent, an 11-point drop from another Quinnipiac poll in May.
“This is a mayor who focuses on the fundamentals New Yorkers care about, not political chatter”, said Wiley Norvell, a spokesman for Mr.de Blasio. In all, the city will spend $6 billion on homelessness over the next four years, a $1 million increase.
But City Hall’s battle with Uber is not de Blasio’s only recent brawl with a powerful foe. It’s a front-page headline that likely won’t help those poll numbers.
Voters also seem to side with Governor Andrew Cuomo in his ongoing feud with de Blasio over legislative issues. Quinnipiac’s first poll of his mayoralty in January 2014 found 53 percent of voters approving of him.
