Cuomo: Ted Cruz Offended All NYers with Debate Remarks
Is hypocrisy a “New York value”? And – and – you know, the concept of NY values is not that complicated to figure out. So you might not. And so, I’ve heard their demands, and I am happy to give them an apology.
Trump countered with an emotional recounting of his hometown’s response to the September 11 attacks.
Donald Trump on Friday weighed in for the first time on Ted Cruz’s failure to disclose a loan from Goldman Sachs during his 2012 Senate campaign, and also slammed the Texas senator over his recent criticism of “New York values” and the controversy over his Canadian birth.
“I am from NY”. It’s got great people, it’s got loving people, wonderful people.
But he continued, in rhetoric that made clear the apology wasn’t the one expected of him: “I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers who have been let down by liberal politicians in that state”.
And declaring that people who think a certain way “have no place in the state of New York” sure sounds like rank “demonizing” to us. “We saw more death and even the smell of death and it was with us for months”. “We rebuilt downtown Manhattan, and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved NY and loved New Yorkers”. “That was a very insulting statement that Ted made”. “Here’s a guy who has voted against NY”.
Today Trump got some back up from a neighbor and unlikely ally: Hillary Clinton.
Trump shot back, defending the city, home to more than 8 million people.
Cruz’s attack sparked outrage in NY, where the front page of the Daily News illustrated the Statue of Liberty with a single finger artfully extended alongside the headline: “DROP DEAD, TED”.
As the blowback from Donald Trump’s fierce shaming of Ted Cruz at Thursday night’s debate continues, many in the media have been dancing around the coded meaning behind Ted Cruz’s “New York values” attack.
Cruz “has no trouble taking money from New York City, but he’s quick to insult our people and our values”, said de Blasio. “And I think it’s really going to backfire on him”. He apologized to the New Yorkers who are “pro-life and pro-marriage and pro-second amendment who were told by Gov. Cuomo they have no place in NY”.
Longtime New Yorker and Republican donor John Catsimatidis said Sen.
Cuomo, on CNN, accused Cruz of “practicing the politics of division”.
“Well if you’re willing to take our money, then show us the respect we deserve and earned and don’t try to divide us from our fellow Americans”, Giuliani added.
