Curran brothers Tom and Sam take all 10 wickets for Surrey
“Following confirmation that he is due to complete his residential qualification to play for England at the end of October, we are delighted to add him to the EPP fast bowlers group for the winter”.
“Congratulations to Tom on his selection”.
Tom, 20, and brother Sam, 17, took all 10 wickets for Surrey in the County Championship match at the Oval as they reduced the visitors to just 110. Bernard and Nicolaas Scholtz recently achieved this feat, in 2011, for Namibia when they bowled out Kwa-Zulu-Natal.
After steering Tom Curran’s first ball to the third-man boundary to bring up 1,000 first-class runs for the season, Ben Duckett fell to the bowler’s very next delivery, trapped lbw for 120 to end a 227-run stand with Alex Wakely for the second wicket.
He took seven for 35 in their final match of the season against Northamptonshire, with younger brother Sam taking the other three wickets.
It was a day of multiple celebrations for Sam Curran, who earlier scored an unbeaten 61, his highest first-class score, and who was also called up for the England Under-19 squad for a tri-series against Sri Lanka and India in December.
Sam, who is still at school at Wellington College where he has just started his final year of A-levels, has made a big impact with his left-arm seam bowling since breaking into the Surrey side in July and took a five-wicket haul on his debut against Kent.
Both Curran brothers are considered to be potential stars for the England national team. Surrey had piled up 410 thanks to a wonderful century from Kumar Sangakkara and it was the turn of the Curran brothers to wreck havoc.
And the pair are tipped for big things after enjoying a breakthrough season at Surrey which has seen the side promoted back to the top division of the county championship. Sam was born in Northampton and Tom, although, born in Cape Town, will qualify by residence in October.
