Curry leads Warriors to 125-101 rout of Nuggets
Start coughing up the ball against the Warriors’ onslaught and you’re in for a long night.
Curry carved up the Denver Nuggets with seven 3-pointers on his way to 33 points, and the Golden State Warriors went up big early and coasted to a 125-101 win over Denver. “Not at all surprising the way Steph bounces back from bad nights”, Golden State coach Steve Kerr said. “The game called for him to come out”. He buried his 11th, 12th and record-breaking 13th three pointers on consecutive possessions to turn a five-point game into a 109-97 lead with 2:23 on the clock.
Once again, though, Curry intervened to turn the tide, hitting his ninth and 10th threes of the night to help the Warriors into an 84-78 lead. Denver finally stopped the bleeding with some free throws but unfortunately the Nuggets could not control their turnovers on offense and continued to lose guys on defense, including Curry, which resulted in a 38-19 lead for the Warriors after the first quarter.
Kevin Durant needed just one more basket to keep an impressive scoring streak going and more than 5 minutes to get it. The Golden State Warriors are averaging 112.9 points on 48.7 percent shooting and allowing 109.4 points on 45.1 percent shooting. And No. 30 kept bombing away. Curry erased the records of Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall who registered 12 three-pointers in 2013 and 2005, respectively.
Are the Warriors a good bet to cover against the Nuggets tonight at 9:00PM ET playing on back-to-back nights?
The Warriors played a strong team-game, sharing the load in their second game of a physically demanding back-to-back and shutting the Nuggets down early. Curry made 13 three points from 17 attempts on the night, the most triples in one game in National Basketball Association history. The Nuggets finished 13-of-36 from 3-point range. The Lakers found a way to defeat Golden State in the Staples Center, so hopefully Denver can find the same luck. No Nugget scored over 14 points. The Nuggets were the ones trapped at home all night. His Pelicans were only behind by one point midway through the third, and Davis sunk the go ahead bucket as New Orleans went up by one. Durant finished with 22 points, while Thompson contributed 24 to the team’s 116-106 victory.
