Curry scores 44 as flawless Warriors beat Raptors 112-109
After beating the Celtics 108-105 on Saturday, the Spurs have won eight of their last nine games and have only allowed 90-plus points twice during that stretch. Goran Dragic scored 17 points for the Heat, who held Cleveland to 36 percent shooting.
The Warriors entered Sunday’s game with two of their three most recent wins having come by just three points apiece, and the team has showed signs of vulnerability-particularly in light of its mid-game skid. George also has reestablished himself as one of the best two-way players in the league by defending the opposing team’s best perimeter player. On Saturday in Toronto, he made nine three-pointers and had 44 points in a win over Toronto, his seventh game this season scoring 40 or more points.
“He’s a great player”, said Brooklyn coach Lionel Hollins.
“It’s pretty purposeful just trying to see if I can get some room and figure out a way to impact the game”, Curry said. “It’s a familiar setting”.
Guard Kyle Lowry led the Raptors (12-9) with 41 points and seven assists. However, it was still not enough to take down the champions, who improved to 11-0 on the road this season.
“Yeah it’s insane but our guys are fine with it”, said coach Luke Walton.
“That Toronto team is very talented and they were playing at a high level today”. Draymond Green had a double double with 22 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.
“I think everybody’s staying in the moment”. “All I’ve got to do is suit up and try and go play hard every night”. We might not play our best game but we find a way to win, ” he added.
DeRozan added 16 points for the Raptors, while center Lucas Nogueira added 14 points.
A Lowry layup with 10.7 seconds pulled the Raptors to within a point, but two free throws by Curry, then a turnover by Cory Joseph clinched yet another victory for Golden State.
Quiet early after consecutive 40-point games, Curry erupted with 11 points in that game-changing spurt, adding an alley-oop to Festus Ezeli and a dagger 3 to end the quarter for an 87-80 lead.
As usual, Stephen Curry saved the day for the Warriors, hitting a couple of clutch three-pointers with over three minutes to go in the game when the Raptors threatened to give Golden State their first loss of the season.
DeMar DeRozan made one of two free throws to cut the lead to one.
“He made some tough shots”.
Klay Thompson, the other three-point killer in the Warriors lineup began the night like he was going to match his more publicized teammate three-ball-for-three-ball, but when he slowed down in the second half, Curry just kept going. The last five-point lead was 75-70 on a 3-pointer by guard Shane Larkin with 3:10 left.
Golden State fans were holding their breath in the second quarter when Curry left the court clutching his face following a collision with Raptors forward DeMarre Carroll.
The Warriors are one of three unblemished sports teams this year.
“It’s super small”, he said.
