Curry scores 44 as perfect Warriors beat Raptors 112-109
Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were accurate from long range, and the Warriors were productive offensively overall with Curry on the court. He went shot-for-shot with Curry from start to finish. “Kyle had a good offensive (game)”.
The world has noticed. Get a glimpse of his rigorous pregame shooting routine and it becomes slightly more understandable.
Curry torching the Raptors shouldn’t have been unexpected.
But after Lowry scored and got fouled with 44.2 seconds left, he missed the ensuing free throw to leave the Warriors with a 106-105 lead. It was like Barry Bonds’ in the batting cage, he said. They’re desperate for another championship. That marked a 16-0 run for the Warriors in the first quarter which ended with them up 32-21. Toronto had to rally from 17 points down to earn a 96-86 win at Atlanta on Wednesday and did not have enough gas in the tank to overcome another large deficit on Thursday. And yet, the Warriors are just the opposite. “We have to learn from it”. “This year, we weren’t favoured”. “When he is doing things like that to carry us it just picks up everybody’s intensity”. Playing on a rare Saturday afternoon at home, the Raptors also provided their most entertaining game of the season.
“You would think that we would kind of falter under that pressure and people would get a kind of deer-in-the-headlights look, knowing that if we lose the streak’s over, that kind of deal”, Curry said. They like that entertaining style of basketball. Most encouragingly, Lucas “Bebe” Nogueira scored 14 points in 25 minutes and has absolutely earned himself more playing time as Jonas Valanciunas recovers from his hand injury. The shots do not change.
He returned for his junior season and shifted from shooting guard to point guard, though Davidson failed to make the NCAA Tournament, and Curry’s hot reputation took somewhat of a hit.
Bogut says Curry doesn’t simply light it up for a full 40 minutes every night, if he tried that, “He’d probably score 70 or 80”. No one around the Warriors is taking him for granted, and the same goes for this streak.
Curry had 21 first-half points.
Curry’s three-pointer with 2:33 to play put the Warriors ahead 102-100.
At their best, they’re not just a great basketball team.
They pass, and they do so with a objective – from side to side to side to side. Sure, Curry can toy with a defender, using his tighter-than-it-looks handle to shake anybody in his way.
“He made some tough shots”.
That’s just the team. And perhaps there is a little of that.
Miami fans serenaded the ex-Heat player with a “LeBron is tired” chant in the fourth quarter.
There is just ease and joy. They were averaging almost 30 assists per game before Saturday because they’re willing to make the extra pass. But we’re out there on the floor very confident, very comfortable. “Every night, trying to lock in and focus and bring the effort”.
This is not a chase for perfection, either – at least the Warriors do not term it as such. “We might not play our best game, but we find a way to win”. “We wish we could have pulled that one off”. Toronto was unable to slow the game down in their first meeting, and that led to an insurmountable first half lead.
“That’s a lot”, Casey said.
They aren’t anywhere close to the best. Still, the Warriors found a way. It hasn’t always translated against teams that they are expected to beat. There’s obviously more media around. As a fan of the game, it’s definitely exciting to see.
It is easy to tell.
