Curry sets record of 128 consecutive games with a 3-pointer
The reigning MVP, who began his evening by making a three-pointer in his NBA-record 128th consecutive game, went on to score 51 points in Golden State’s 130-114 road victory over Orlando. Isolate those minutes to fourth quarters, when Golden State often utilizes it to close out opponents, and that lineup is outscoring teams by a staggering 86 points in just 59 minutes. But Gasol narrowly missed a triple-double (15 rebounds, 10 points and nine assists). Curry finished with a game-high 42 points along with seven boards and seven dimes. It came on his first basket just 1:18 into the opening period.
This makes sense because it’s when the Warriors’ gameplan is at its sharpest and when Steve Kerr nearly always plays Stephen Curry the whole quarter and Draymond Green most of it.
“Steph has license to shoot anytime he wants”. It would be great if we could do it tonight, not let him make a 3, but it’s hard to see how he’ll have a game without it happening.
The Warriors’ victory in the clash of divisional leaders saw the National Basketball Association pacesetters improve to 51-5, while the Heat’s lead in the Southeast Division trimmed to one-and-a-half games. They are 41-1 in those games. That included two straight three-pointers, with the second shot giving the Warriors a 110-108 lead that they did not relinquish.
-The Warriors havelost the first quarter only 13 times in 54 games this season.
One December 2, the Warriors barely got past the Magic 98-97 when Curry hit the game winning three against Tobias Harris with 2.2 seconds left.
Wade and Whiteside each shot 5-of-5 in the first quarter, and the Heat was accurate on 56.0 percent from the floor. If Golden State wins its two home games next week, the March 7 showdown against the Magic at Oracle Arena could be the game for a NBA-record 45th straight home victory.
A Thompson layup then staked Golden State to a 101-100 lead with 4:12 to play, with Thompson following with a 3-pointer with 3:31 left for a 104-100 Warriors lead, matching Golden State’s largest lead of the night to that stage.
They’re not saying so, but if I know these Warriors players, they’re already preparing themselves for the challenge of it-they love these historic challenges. Curry had 42 points as the Warriors defeated the Heat 118-112.
Fatigue may be a factor for the Warriors since they played just last night, but they really shouldn’t have much of a problem beating a Magic team that really had to battle against the lowly 76ers. “When they both do it on the same night that is when we are tough to beat”. “Kyle is sprinting off screens and it’s possible you could switch out and maybe take some away from him, whereas Steph, there are so many of them off the dribble and from 30 feet and fading away….”
