Warriors Head coach Steve Kerr meets with the news media before the… By the time the clock read 5:59, Golden State had extended its lead to 22-8, and Vogel used another timeout. The Warriors were in complete control of the game from the start. @stephencurry30 said he will see me after the game.
“Steph hits half-court shots all the time in practice”, Kerr noted. Per NBA rules, the All-Star coaches are taken from the teams with the conferences’ best records as of January 31, and the Warriors lead the Spurs by two games atop the West. Although the reigning MVP aided his team with 12 assists and 10 rebounds that was not all he did.
But on this night, one of the biggest adrenaline rushes of the game came before the game, because Kerr had been gone so long after taking a leave of absence because of complications after back surgery. “I felt confident in the second one because I’d already made one”.
DeAndre Jordan topped the Clippers with 20 points, but his league-leading double-double streak ended at 11 straight games as he hauled in eight rebounds. The only other player with at least 200 3’s in a season is Ray Allen, with five.
An emotional Kerr waved and said, “Thank you” when he received a rousing ovation during pregame introductions.
The Warriors, for all the talk of passing and shooting, weren’t at their best tonight, but you wouldn’t know it by the final score, their passing, and their shooting.
Interim head coach Luke Walton, who led the champs in Kerr’s absence, will return to his spot as top assistant.
“It’s a tough business when you go 30-11 and you get fired (after) you get to the Finals the year before”, Kerr said.
Curry finished with a season-high 12 assists and 10 rebounds to go with his 39 points, giving the Warriors 10 triple-doubles this season, a franchise record. “Honestly, when I first stepped aside I was thinking a month or two”. The 50-year-old couldn’t wait to get back out there, saying he had “butterflies”.
“I’ve been waiting for this for a long time”.
“He’s done a great job just managing the team and really doing a good job during timeouts and calling the right plays”, Kerr said, via Yahoo Sports .
“But at the end of the day, win or lose, we’re going to compete”.
When the Spurs arrive Monday night at Oracle Arena for the first meeting between the teams this season — and the most anticipated game of the season — the Warriors will get a microscopic look at what they aspire to be.
Curry and Thompson had 15 points apiece in the half, including a 3-pointer each in a 16-2 flurry over a 3:04 stretch that opened a 25-8 lead in the game’s seventh minute.
“So proud of him”.
“Tell Luke I love him”, the proud Hall of Famer said. That’s no way to trade baskets with Golden State, which went 14-of-33 from deep.
Draymond Green tossed up an very bad shot on goal.
The second quarter was slower one for Golden State.
