Curry ties NBA record, now has 3s in 127 consecutive games
Thompson finished with four 3s against Miami on eight attempts and racked up 33 points of his own, including 15 straight during one stretch in the fourth quarter.
Kerr was asked if he were ever concerned that Curry and Thompson would miss.
Miami (32-24) is now mired in controversy due to a new blood clot in Chris Bosh’s leg. Bosh doesn’t want to give up but team officials want him to take off the rest of the season. Teams don’t generally play the Warriors close, and the Heat were up to the challenge.
For the game, Curry made 14-of-29 from the floor, including 6-of-12 on three-pointers. He along with Curry combined for 75 points for Golden State.
“Steph has incredible take-over ability”, Thompson said of Curry. This was Varejao’s first game getting actual minutes so he has an excuse but if Kerr is going to play him over Speights, the Brazilian big man better get on the level of his teammates sooner rather than later.
Calling it an experience he won’t forget, Curry was part of a group of Golden State Warriors who got to play the course Tuesday, and the NBA’s 3-point leader and reigning MVP even made a 10-footer for birdie on his opening hole.
Steph Curry’s greatness as a basketball player has been further cemented after the Golden State player landed a successful three-point shot for the 127th consecutive game, tying an NBA record. Miami also had a strong performance from Hassan Whiteside, who finished with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds.
LOS ANGELES – Kenneth Faried had 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Denver beat the Clippers for its first victory since the All-Star break. When they both do it on the same night, that’s when we’re really tough to beat. It’s not like we were soft on them or making a lot of mistakes.
Early on, though, it was all Miami.
On the next possession, Whiteside blocked a 3-point try from Draymond Green – his Twitter nemesis, after they exchanged words on the social media platform past year – but the ball found its way to Curry, who connected.
With Green on the bench, Whiteside went on a personal 8-0 run late in the first quarter to extend the Heat’s lead from four to 12.
“He was tenacious”, coach Erik Spoelstra said of Richardson.
Curry, the league’s top scorer, nailed a 27-foot 3-pointer with 1:06 left to put Golden State up 107-106 with 1:06 remaining. The milestone basket came on his first points of the contest in front of a crowd of 19,900 at Miami’s AmericanAirlines Arena.
“It was a great game”, Whiteside said. “It was exciting for the fans. I thought Miami outplayed us for much of the game”, he told the media.
“J-Rich, in his minutes made the most of it tonight”, Spoelstra said.
