Curry, Warriors hold off Clippers
The depth of the Warriors roster is as good as gets. This Golden State team looks better than last season and is playing with an added chip on its shoulder. Still though, the Clippers can only play who is on their schedule and they have gotten off to a nice start and will have their biggest test of this early season against Golden State. That plus-104 point differential is still the fifth-best margin through five games in National Basketball Association history. The Clippers couldn’t take advantage of Curry’s absence as they committed six turnovers in the first.
Redick hit his third 3-pointer of the game, DeAndre Jordan threw down an alley-oop dunk, Griffin hit a jump shot, and backup point guard Austin Rivers made a layup to tie the score at 77.
The Warriors won their 21st straight regular-season game at home after the Clippers threatened to end that franchise mark.
After beating their first four opponents by a league-record 100 points combined, Golden State took on the Clips at home in just the 10th-ever matchup between undefeated teams with at least four wins.
Steph Curry is out to prove that their championship run is no fluke. His PER of 50.3 is unheard of and he is averaging 37 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 2.5 steals per game so far. Yet another player, Kendrick Perkins, injured his pectoral muscles in Saturday’s game and is said to now be out for the rest of the season. Curry is shooting a ridiculous 59.5 percent overall from the field this year and 48.8 percent from the perimeter.
More than a week after suffering a concussion, Warriors center Andrew Bogut missed a fourth straight game having not yet completed the NBA’s return-to-participation protocol that requires players to be free of symptoms. But Ezeli doesn’t care and showed Griffin what he can do with a powerful block.
There was no letdown from the Golden State Warriors on Friday night as they continued their hot start with a 119-104 win over the Denver Nuggets at Oracle Arena.
Even though the Pelicans have simplified their defense in an attempt to make things easier, they gave up 39 and 43 points in the first quarters of two of their last few games because they allegedly allowed open jumpers and penetration.
Both Paul and Curry dealt with early foul trouble, with Curry going to the bench with two fouls less than three minutes into the game and Paul being forced to sit early in the third quarter with his fourth. “Me, personally, I believe we are still a work in progress”, veteran guard Tony Allen told reporters.
