Customer shoots bank robber in Warren
A customer shot an alleged, gun-toting bank robber in suburban Detroit on Monday afternoon, police say.
The 43-year-old gunman suffered three non-fatal gunshot wounds as he confronted the autoworker in the lobby of Citizens Bank on Van Dyke Avenue north of Nine Mile Road.
“The bank robber entered the bank, produced a gun and demanded money”, Warren police Detective Sgt.
Fox 2 reports that the customer has a concealed weapons permit. The bank worker asked him if he meant to inquire about setting up an account.
Prior to Mondays heist, the building was operated at a Charter One Bank when it was hit in November 2002, May 2003, in June and November 2004, in February and November 2005, in December 2011 and five weeks later in January 2012. The suspect reportedly was about to get away with “a large amount” of cash before the 63-year-old customer, also armed, stepped in and shot him three times.
The customer who fired the shot is cooperating with police.
“They basically pulled up to a guy on the ground – bloody – and they handcuffed him”, Guyett said.
“Maybe it will make the bad guy think twice next time”, he said.
Fouts said one of the important aspects of the situation was that no one else was hurt and the suspected robber was not fatally injured. “It appears he was acting within his Second Amendment rights”.
“I’m glad to see that more people are carrying guns”, Guyette said.
A customer opened fire on a man who had just robbed a southeast Michigan bank Monday, inflicting non-life-threatening injuries that detained the suspect until police could arrive. In March 2001, the branch was owned by First Federal Bank when it was robbed.
