Cutler, Howard lead Bears to 20-10 win over Vikings
The Cubs are trying to win their first World Series in 108 years.
Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler returned from a long injury absence to lead the Bears to an upset 20-10 win against Minnesota on Monday.
The Vikings are the obvious drop, after we gave them the benefit of the doubt last week against the Eagles. The truth of the matter is Cutler is on his 6th offensive coordinator since being in Chicago. He has teased Bears fans over the years with his talent. If Monday night was an audition for another team, he will find a future home. Let’s be honest, the chances of that are about 1%, but if you are an optimist, there is your reason for hope for this season. Alshon Jeffery got his first touchdown reception of the season, and Chicago outgained Minnesota 403 yards to 258. That included 158 yards rushing. “We wanted to get him vertical at some point in the game”. Right now the Vikings’ pilot light is out.
Minnesota is host to Detroit (4-4) on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium, a game that suddenly has real implications in the NFC North race.
With the victory, the Bears improved to 2-6 heading into their bye week.
Matt Asiata ran for 42 yards with Jerick McKinnon sidelined by an ankle injury.
Howard made everything go for the Bears.
The front seven on defense all of the sudden has three healthy pass-rushers in Leonard Floyd, Willie Young and Pernell McPhee and that’s really brought out the best in Akiem Hicks who hasn’t been bad this season either.
Adam Thielen isn’t the Vikings’ most gifted wide receiver, but he’s shown some big-play ability when called upon.
“Sometimes it takes guys to believe before you can achieve.”With Richard Dent, Dan Hampton and Dick Butkus in the building, the Bears defense went back in the time and played like the Monsters of the Midway”.
He might prefer to talk about his health as opposed to what is happening to the 5-2 team that just two weeks ago was the last undefeated team in the league. Somebody used red paint and slit the throats of several of the stuffed animals.
“They controlled the game, and they controlled the tempo of the game”. “We’ll get back to work”. He also slows the approach down a little with a play fake before floating a short pass to Howard, who has space and a convoy to catch the ball at the 44 and make it all the way to the 31. They did not have the opportunity to make plays at any level. They made a lot of plays. Sometimes you get beat. “We wish him nothing but the best moving forward in whatever endeavors he chooses”. The Vikings didn’t get to Bears quarterback Jay Cutler at all in the first half and had just one sack in the game. The 202 yards from scrimmage were the most yards gained by a single player against a Vikings defense that had allowed 279.5 yards per game and 81.7 yards on the ground. Just weeks removed from the head coach trying to run him out of town, truly, Cutler stepped in with a memorable Bears performance, leading an offense to the highest output any team has had against Minnesota this season. The team can’t feel sorry for themselves. “They did a good job taking it away”.
