Cyanogen Claims to have More Users than Windows Mobile and Blackberry Combined
This latest info still falls under the realm of unofficial sources, of course, though it does seem to add just a bit of credence to the rumors by showing how software on the Android device would be like.
Cyanogen is better than Android when it comes to customization options, which is a feature most popular among users and developers.
Cyanogen’s Adnan Begovic said at the Seattle Code Rush event over the weekend that the company’s modified version of Android has 50 million users globally, giving it a larger share of the smartphone market than Windows Mobile and BlackBerry combined. From the way the market is moving, it will not be long before Cyanogen is ahead of both Windows Phone and BlackBerry, but right now it is still behind the third place OS.
It is possible that 10-20 per cent of these sales were made by customers that have since went off the grid, but that still leaves millions from 2013 and 2014 that still own a Windows Phone.
Cyanogen will hope its plans come to fruition going forward, having suffered major setbacks in the past. Cyanogen’s success at getting a few big Asian companies on its side can prove fatal to Google.
BB hasn’t confirmed the handset’s operating system and contrary to previous reports that it might be exclusive to AT&T in the United States, there’s word now that the BlackBerry Venice may also be launched on T-Mobile.
That was followed by a funding round – also in March – that raised million in capital for the Cyanogen. (NASDAQ:QCOM) expected to play a pivotal role in the scaling of it engineering efforts.
