Cyanogen OS 13.1 Release Brings MOD Features Alive

The new mod platforms works only on CyanogenOS, and it is unlikely Google will change its policies on deep integration anytime soon.

The new MOD feature is available only starting Cyanogen OS 13.1, which, for now, is rolling out first to the OnePlus One.

“Mods are your favorite features, right where you expect them”, is the tag line from Cyanogen on the latest OS release, which company execs call “the MOD ready update”. The most notable aspect of this update is the includes of Mods, which is a feature that’ll integrate third-party apps deeply into the core features of the phone.

Cyanogen MODs will make it possible for users to not sacrifice their preferred apps and services only to have some additional features. Simply open the Camera app, switch modes to Hyperlapse, and shoot your video.

Microsoft and Cyanogen have an on-going partnership that brings a number of apps, including Skype and Cortana, in Android ROMs, and now this collaboration is going one step forward with the introduction of mods in version 13.1 for OnePlus One. Users can also upgrade to a video call right from a voice call by pressing a button.

Cortana can be accessed directly from the lock screen after updating the OnePlus One with Cyanogen OS 13.1. For example for easier access Cortana Mod is extended to the lockscreen. This means that the next time a user wants to take selfies, he/she can just shout a command to Cortana and take the picture. With Mods, software will now show you pertinent information for certain apps, which can be accessed in some instances by swiping left on the lock screen.

Microsoft’s Hyperlapse Mod has been included to the Camera app, allowing users to capture stable time-lapse videos, or convert any video in their Gallery app into a time-lapse one. The Static Wallpaper option is essentially the lock screen wallpaper that is selected as default and users can select from other Mods already installed, including Happening on Twitter – which displays popular tweets from accounts users follow. Skype contacts are clearly marked and searchable in Phone contacts and users can also buy Skype Credit right from the dialer, make Skype to Skype calls for free. Cyanogen’s new version of its OS will at last provide the Cyanogen MODs, which is the developer platform of Cyanogen OS for the creation of new Android experience.
