Dad says his son’s Hail Mary catch bigger than “The Play”
The Packers got one more shot to win after Detroit defensive end Devin Taylor was called for grabbing Aaron Rodgers’ face mask on a tackle on what would have been the last play of the game.
Here is my first ever review of this blog for the game last night between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions in Detroit.
Richard Rodgers II, who is 6-foot-4, has been called Biggie since he was a kid. But those are losing plays and Waddle continues to make them.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (12) celebrates with teammates after defeating the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.
The Rodgers family has a flare for the dramatic – and no, we’re not talking about Aaron Rodgers. But that wasn’t all; per Demovksy, on Friday the Packers also worked out another running back from the same draft class: former Denver Bronco Montee Ball.
Earlier on Friday, before sources told ESPN about the curfew violation, coach Mike McCarthy wouldn’t say the exact reason for Lacy’s demotion, but looking back on his answer after the fact, it was telling. “You want to get the ball into the end zone and you want to get people around it. However you orchestrate that, I mean you don’t want to throw it short and you don’t want to throw it out”, Belichick said. Rodgers threw a pass to Jared Abbrederis, which could have been called pass interference. With the ball sailing overhead, they were not in a position to defend anything. At this point, there are four Green Bay receivers with three Detroit defenders in the area.
Of course, dad knows something about making big plays, having had a hand in one of the biggest. But once he realized that there was nobody around him, that all the Detroit Lion players were in back of the Green Bay Packer players, then he knew that he could go up and make the play at his high point.
After his team’s thrilling finish Thursday night, McCarthy took a jab at the 2012 play and the Seahawks.
Because the Lions didn’t see the “Hail Mary” coming, Richard Rodgers was able to jump up freely to come down with Rodgers pass.
Had Green Bay lost again, they would have dropped to a 7-5 record, two losses behind the divisionleading Minnesota Vikings (8-3). They made the correct call, and Aaron Rodgers made the legitimate heroic touchdown throw. “The most incredible game of my life”. Instead, the Packers remain in the hunt for the NFC North crown, as well as a bye in the first round of the playoffs, while leading the conference for one of the two available wild-card spots. Rodgers’ 61-yard touchdown bomb to tight end Richard Rodgers on the next play won it with the clock reading 0:00.
The Packers’ fourth quarter rally and the Rodgers’ desperation touchdown pass brought back memories of other noteworthy “Hail Mary” victories.
Lions fans? Not so much.
