Dade Schools receive threat; classes open on Thursday
Although Los Angeles schools were closed, officials in NY made a decision to keep schools open – after dismissing a similar threat as a hoax.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools also received a threat late Wednesday, according to a statement on the district’s website.
Rebecca Alvarado, who was taking her five-year-old daughter to an elementary school near downtown, says she’s “glad they shut it down”. “In an abundance of caution, additional resources have been deployed to our schools and throughout our community”, Broward Schools said in a statement. After consultation with state and federal law enforcement, it was deemed “less than credible”, it said.
LA QUINTA, CA- Desert Sands Unified School District officials said Tuesday they were monitoring the unprecedented closure of roughly 900 Los Angeles Unified campuses due to a threat, but said there is no credible threat to local schools.
Miami-Dade School officials believe the threat came from the same account that turned out to be a hoax in Los Angeles. Houston ISD sent parents an automated phone call last night notifying them of the threat it received, which follows several others sent to school districts across the nation. “We ask you to be vigilant Thursday morning and report any suspicious activity to police”, the spokesperson continues.
