Dadri lynching: `Beef` not mentioned in chargesheet; juvenile named
The move can prove it hard for the victim’s counsel or prosecution to establish murder charges (302) against any specific person or persons as the chargesheet has not invoked conspiracy charges giving more precedence to charges of rioting. In a breakthrough in the case, the police had arrested four persons on Monday for their alleged involvement in the lynching on September 28. Akhlaq’s son Danish was brutally beaten. Akhlaq’s daughter, Shaista, is one of the key witnesses in the case.
On September 28, Mohammad Akhlaq, 52, was dragged out of his home and beaten to death by a mob after announcements were made at a local temple that a calf had been killed.
Two more persons, Puneet and Bhim, were arrested on Wednesday while two others, identified by Danish continue to be absconding indicating a chance of a supplementary chargesheet in the case. It names three of the accused – Vishal (son of local BJP functionary Sanjay Rana), Shivam and Rupender – as the ones who had pressured the priest of a nearby temple to announce on a loudspeaker about Akhlaq having beef.
While Akhlaq died in a Noida hospital, Danish is slowly recovering after extreme head accidents and sophisticated surgical procedure. He added that two suspects have been nonetheless at giant. “They are the main witnesses”, a senior police officer said.
