Daisy Johnson Gets a Costume Upgrade for Agents of SHIELD Season 3
That design came from costume designer Ann Foley, who counts the tactical uniforms of Deathlok and Mockingbird among her favorites on the show – as well as a sparkly dress worn by actress Ming-Na Wen during a fight scene.
“With the inner geek in me – and growing up with six brothers – I was never really interested in being the princess”, she joked.
The first photo of Bennet in her Quake costume has been revealed. It’s kind of like what Black Widow wears in the movies, except Skye of course has her earthquake-power-focusing gloves instead of “widow’s sting” bracelets.
As has been the case with the other comic-to-television adaptations she has tackled, Foley says that “We wanted to stay true to the comics and pay tribute to those original designs”.
Designing a costume for a superhero is one of the most integral parts of the process, as the suit has to tell you everything you need to know about the character without looking absolutely ridiculous. Skye eventually ditched those, but my guess is that her gauntlets are an upgraded version of them, probably designed to help her control her powers rather than to weaken them.
Chloe Bennet is ready to transform into her superhuman form when “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” returns later this month. “At the end of season one with the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. you see a shift in their costumes-we went a little darker. That’s what was important to me, that she felt empowered to me”, Foley said about the Quake suit. “If you look at the style lines around the top of the costume, you will see that they’re similar to her tactical hood from Season 2”.
We’ll have full coverage of Agents of SHIELD right here as always, including Christina Lazzara (who spent her time in-between seasons getting married) giving us her always entertaining recaps and think pieces.
Season 3 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres on Tuesday, September 29th at 9pm on ABC.
